Surrounded by mountains, with the great dividing range three kilometers away the caravan park is 351 meters above sea level and there are several mountain peaks between 1200 and 1320 meters which offer you the opportunity to go bush walking and mountain/rock climbing. There are two major rivers nearby the Mitchell and the McLeod which offer swimming, fishing and canoeing. The Mcleod has a waterfall and rapids. There is a large lake within one kilometer of the park which offers swimming, fishing, canoeing and bird watching. The former wolframite(Tungsten) mine has closed and is used as a quarry these days although there is an enormous ore body remaining. The area has had a sheelite mine, many tin mines and nearby gold and copper mines abound. Between the caravan park and the hotel and roadhouse there is the manganese creek which is also popular for swimming in the summer (Wet season). The park is surrounded by the Brooklyn Cattle station which is around 59,000 hectares and is in Iron bark country. There is an Airstrip around five kilometers from the park and is located off the main highway so affords you a very quite peaceful stay.
MT. CARBINE
I love my sunburnt Carbine,
The weather forecast is invariably "Fine".
The sun smiles happily down at you,
The moon and stars appear brighter here too.
Hear the birds singing their melodies,
Whilst enjoying the shade of ironbark trees.
The kangaroos make a delightful sight,
Eating green grass under cover of night.
The bush atmosphere brings peace to my heart,
The mountains beyond also play in their part.
T'was once the home of a world famous mine,
Come and share with me my love for Carbine. |
